Now this was the stuff; after a corked '19 a few weeks ago this strutted its stuff; young yes; but full of vibrant orchard fruit, citrus oil, boatloads of crushed stone; very Perrieres and with very good concentration. Lovely stuff. Closed with natural cork which means I'll probably drink my other bottles young too...

Corked; not terribly, but enough to mar the nose; disappointing as this was my first experience with this producer. I've had bad luck with Perrieres... underlying material seemed tasty. Natural cork closure.

Remarkably fresh. Some mineral reduction, along with white peach and green melon fruits. Tight, complex, layered, linear and long.

Very good but approaching peak maturity with this bottle. Golden color. Very complex and has the hallmarks of aged Puligny

I can’t improve on my notes from Jan 23, 2021, except to say that the fruit is starting to fade and the nuances less perceptible yet still a superb mouthful. “ Fantastic!! Honey colored. Grapefruit, pineapple, hazelnut nose and palate. Beautiful acidity, citrus fruit with a slightly cloying texture and an astringent nutty almost bitter finish that is most welcome.“

A way-back-in-the-wine-fridge pull, when option anxiety kicked in. Didn’t have high hopes for this one, but hey, it freed up the slot. And wouldn’t you know it, upon opening this was recognizingly Burgundy. And a pretty decent one to boot! Pale ruby evolving to garnet at the rim. The nose is a bit fuh-schtinkin upon first pour but this blows off to reveal a wine that is very much alive if not the last word in aromatic complexity. Plenty of sous-bois, rose hip, dried Michigan cherry, and some gosh-darn Pinot spice here, not shouting to the back row or rafters, but more sotto voice, but this is definitely aged Burgundy. A sip on the just l-mid-weight palate reveals burnished red fruit, quiet spice notes, and a bit of game. Some mustard seed and and a little salty soil kick here as well. A bit of zangy pomegranate’s acidity (if muted) and just a hint of resolving tannins to frame things. There’s no question of age, but things are finely knit given the breed of the wine and this shows admirably with leftover roast chicken, arugula salad, and leftover Borlotti beans. And though it isn’t quite growing in the glass, I suspect this will more than suffice with the cheese course to follow. I wouldn’t tell you to rush out of the house to locate a bottle of this, but if you happen to have one behind a pile of of Monbazillac 500 ml bottles and a leftover chicken you might be pleasantly surprised. Re-buy? Drank a bunch young and had no complaints. Not sure it was worth storing all these years, but I am pleasantly surprised. They don’t all have to be great bottles, sometimes a good one will hit the spot.

I took a punt on the 1989 Domaine Jean-Michel Gaunoux Gouttes d’Or 1er Cru due to how youthful the domaine’s 1999 vintage was when I opened it in November and this played out extremely similarly. With a perfectly intact cork, the deep gold colour of the wine was alluring, leading to a nose that was quintessentially Meursault as stone fruits medlied with oak and tinges of honey and toast, but the palate - wow - blew me away. With proper maturity, Gaunoux’s wines are transportive as a captivating upfront of tropical fruits - namely mango - that tasted almost Sauternes-esque feel representative of the heat of the vintage before classic Meursault notes of oak, honey and nuttiness emerged in the mid-palate alongside hints of green apple, butter and a peppery note that was present initially but faded over the two hours the bottle was open. Smooth with a lingering mouthfeel, this is one of the best bottles I’ve had out of Meursault, which is a testament to the longevity of Gaunoux’s wines.

Served blind. Not sure of the prep time here before our event tonight. Seems to be a light magenta in the glass. Nose of cherry, palate of cherry. Medium weight in the mouth but seems to be rather simple, lacking depth or layers. A decent wine at 91-92 but leaves me wanting more.......perhaps this is my own lack of a Burgundy palate? I admittedly like a little more fruit from my Pinots. My fault, not this wine's, I know......

A statement Meursault representative of an iconic vintage. Despite it taking a moment to open up aromatically, once it did, we were drawn in by a tertiary nose of oak and cedar wood. Much to our surprise, though, fruit began to make its way into the mix as amongst those earthy scents arose notes of ripe peach and green apple. The palate was complex, drinking far younger than the age of the bottle, with a rich fruitiness that opened up with notes of stone fruit, oak and hints of pepper, creating a very classic Meursault feel to it. A delight to begin dinner with. Can age for even longer.

Vibrant apple and citrus fruit well balanced with creamy, nutty oak. Lovely mouthfeel
This was up against a PM 1er & a meursault 1er both 10yrs+ its senior but for many at the table this was the preferred wine.
Very good wine that will carry on drinking well for the medium term

once again, Meursault Perrieres didn't do it for me... was bright enough, but without that little smidge of citrus fruit to balance the brightness and acidity, felt like no / little oak (my pref) but still a little austere... maybe age would help??... not sure

Drinking well. Surprised the prior notes are so low.

Servee chilled on a warm spring evening outside.

Slightly orange color. Great acidity, agrumes, minerality and lasts on the tongue a good 10-15 seconds.
